The existing 6-inch water main under I-82 was undersized and aging, causing insufficient performance and inadequate fire flows in the vicinity. This project included jacking/boring 200 feet of 30-inch steel casing under I-82, followed by installation of new 12-inch ductile iron water main within the casing. Work also included installation of approximately 400 feet of new 12-inch ductile iron water main to upsize the existing 8-inch water main in South 22nd Street, north of East Viola Avenue. Scheduling was critical to ensure Yakima Regional Wastewater Plant operations were only impacted during non-peak times. Additionally, work involved careful coordination due to close proximity of large utility pipelines in the immediate area, including two 48-inch sewer mains, one 36-inch sewer main, one 36-inch industrial waste main, one 24-inch irrigation main, and one 24-inch drain pipe.
HLA services included topographic survey, field investigations of large utilities in the vicinity, design plans, specifications, cost estimate, bidding process, construction inspection and administration, and WSDOT permitting.
