Failing septic systems and high concentrations of perchloroethylene have contaminated the shallow wells in these Union Gap neighborhoods, therefore with HLA’s assistance the City pursued and attained CDBG funding in 2012 and 2020.
In 2012 approximately 6,110 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron watermain was installed, as well as 330 linear feet of 6- and 8-inch ductile watermain, including 11 new fire hydrants and 38 new water services. Construction of the sewer portion of these improvements included 5,700 linear feet of 6-, 8-, and 10-inch PVC sanitary sewer pipe and 18 manholes.
HLA provided coordination with Departments of Health and Ecology, and Yakama Nation and Cultural Resource subconsultants. HLA assisted with completion of feasibility and alignment studies, and water right and right-of-way acquisitions. Design, plans, specifications, cost estimate, bidding services, and contract preparation were provided, as well as construction services, including inspection and observation, surveying, bond and insurance review, construction meetings, submittal review, and other support tasks.
