City of Yakima
Filter Backwash Lagoon Improvements
The Naches River Water Treatment Plant, originally constructed in 1971, is located between the Naches River and US Highway 12, approximately 6 miles northwest of the City of Yakima. The Naches River Water Treatment Plant has a design capacity of 25 MGD and uses a “direct filtration” process to treat surface water for supply to the City’s potable water system. This improvement project, completed in 2014, included construction of four 438,000 gallon reinforced concrete backwash water settling basins to replace the existing lagoon; construction of new 3,800 GPM filter-to-waste and 650 GPM recycled backwash water pump station to replace the existing pump station; construction of a submersible settling basin drain pump station; electrical and control system improvements; and miscellaneous site improvements.
