HLA Engineering and Land Surveying, Inc. - Project Details

Runway 9/27 Rehabilitation Project

City of Yakima - Yakima Air Terminal

The runway improvement project involved resurfacing the 7,603-foot runway with an asphalt overlay and changing the previous porous friction surface to grooved asphalt.  The project also included crack sealing and new runway markings.

Design of the project began in January 2010 with construction completion in October 2010.  HLA provided various services to the airport during that time including AIP grant preparation; design engineering and preparation of construction plans and contract documents; presentations to airport tenants, the community, and overall coordination with all involved entities; and 24/7 inspection and construction services.

The project followed a rigorous and time-sensitive design and construction schedule.  The runway improvement project met every timeline and was completed within the estimated budget.  The runway 9/27 Rehabilitation Project has been considered a significant success by the airport management, airport community, and the Federal Aviation Administration.  HLA appreciated the opportunity to develop this important project for both the Yakima Air Terminal and the community.
